DJ and MC prices in Ghana

A DJ, an MC, and a live band are three invoices. A family okyeame who speaks for the bride's family is a fourth person, and that role is not a professional MC fee. This page prints the bands that 2024 and 2025 articles actually published. It does not invent a rider, a Kumasi premium, or a single "entertainment" number. The slug still says Accra because that is the address families already share. The prices below are not an Accra-only tariff.

The MC

A September 2025 roundup of professional wedding MCs says they typically charge GHS 2,500 to GHS 8,000. The names on that list are in Accra and Kumasi, and the article does not split the fee by city.

A second article on the same site, about traditional-wedding MCs, says about GHS 4,000 at a 200-guest wedding, GHS 5,000 in one big-wedding example, and GHS 10,000 and above for luxury packages that include hours, travel, and a script. That article treats a hired MC and a family okyeame as the same line. They are not. An early-2024 traditional budget reprinted elsewhere puts appreciation for family spokespersons at GHS 500. That is a gift, not the MC's fee.

Ask whether the quote is the traditional morning, the reception, or both, and whether travel outside the city is extra. Compare Accra MCs and Kumasi MCs as two shortlists, not as a discount off each other.

The DJ

WePostWeddings, on 6 September 2024, is the only page that tries hours. It says a basic DJ is about GHS 3,000 for 5 hours, plus about GHS 500 per extra hour, and then summarises the market as GHS 2,000 to GHS 5,000 and above. The same article later says a live band or a DJ with a PA can cost around GHS 2,000 for the day. Those sentences do not describe one product. Read the hours on the quote you receive.

One creator's February 2025 wedding stack prices a DJ at GHS 7,500 and an MC at GHS 5,000. Knotting's March 2026 sample puts both people on one line at GHS 10,000. A January 2024 secondary list says DJ GHS 4,000 and MC GHS 4,000. None of these is a DJ's rate card. Use them as a warning that a combined line hides who is actually booked.

On the quote, ask for the hours, who brings the PA and the speakers, what an hour past the booking costs, and whether a generator or a backup controller is included. A funeral spinning DJ is another product again. A 2025 fieldwork note mentions one inside a GHS 110,000 funeral and does not price the DJ alone. Browse Accra DJsand ask for the hour, not for "entertainment."

The live band

WePostWeddings prices a live band at about GHS 2,000 in one paragraph of that September 2024 article and about GHS 3,000 in another. Marketplace ads include GHS 4,500 and GHS 3,000 a day or per service, and they do not limit the booking to weddings. An early-2024 traditional budget puts a kete group at GHS 3,000 and a live band at GHS 2,000 for the day. There is no live-band tariff with set length, number of players, and sound equipment. Get the headcount of the band and who owns the PA in writing.

Questions that change the bill

1. Is this the traditional morning, the reception, or both days?
2. How many hours, and what does the next hour cost?
3. Who supplies speakers, microphones, and a backup if a deck fails?
4. Is travel outside Accra, or outside Kumasi, inside the fee?
5. Is the family linguist being paid, or is this a hired MC?
6. Does the garden already have power, or is a generator someone else's bill?

No 2024 to 2026 page publishes a normal deposit for a DJ or an MC. One Accra photographer's classified asks for 80 percent down. That is a photographer, not a DJ. Write the split, the balance date, and the cancellation rule into the quote before you pay.
